Description
The endless, ever changing seaalways fascinated by the endless, I photographed this lovely wave on the Oregon Coast.
Physics defines a wave as an oscillation traveling through the middle world of space and matter, transferring various amounts of energy, depending on the size of the waveform. These coastal waves were definitely transferring a lot of energy from one point to another. The air was electric with negative ions, as the incoming high tide crashed into the outgoing low tide. This wonderful location is near the small Oregon beach town of Yachats on the Oregon Coast. The forested cliffs meet the Pacific Ocean here in tumultuous union at Devils Churn, especially during the November storm track. I was looking for images to paint that would capture the power of the sea.
Our World Ocean gives our home its lovely blue color and its name, the Blue Planet. The color of the waters is predominantly from dissolved organic matter and chlorophyll. There are five major divisions of the World Ocean. The Pacific separates Asia and Oceania form the Americas. The Atlantic separates the Americas from Eurasia and Africa. The Indian Ocean separates Africa and Australia. The Southern ocean encircles the Antarctic and the Arctic Ocean covers much of the Artic area.
Earth is the only known planet to have such a large amount of open water. Here on Earth, the saline oceans cover almost 72% of the planets surface, and it is essential to all known life. The World Ocean forms part of the carbon cycle, is an influence on weather and climate and is home to 230,000 species of life forms and is thought to have been the birthing ground for the first life forms to emerge on land.
Creating portals of light, love, joy, beauty, compassion, hope and gratitude is my lifelong passion and gift for the earth, hence the name of my art business, For the Earth. My mother painted in oils when I was young and encouraged my own drawing, painting and handcrafting in all forms. My father, the photographer, gave me my first camera at age 8. As a result of these loving influences, I am a lifelong student of both mediums. I am grateful to my wonderful Pacific NW painter teachers, Stan Capon and Edi Olson, for training my eye and technique. I hope you will enjoy this image as much as I enjoyed its creation.
