The Rat is one of the 12-year cycle animals appearing in the Chinese zodiac. The Chinese zodiac, a circle of animal symbols and their characteristics, one for each year in the cycle, provides a way to systematically plan for future action. In addition to the animals of the year, further distinctions are drawn with animals assigned to month, inner animals, and to the day, true animals, and to the hours, secret animals. As an example, a person can be born in the year of the Tiger and be a Rabbit internally and a Horse truly, as well as a Dragon secretly.The Chinese calendar is still popular in China, Vietnam, Korea and Japan.
Traditionally, the first year of the cycle begins with the sign of the Rat. The first three months or trine consists of Rat, Dragon and Monkey. Creating portals of light, love, joy, beauty, compassion, hope and gratitude is my lifelong passion and purpose. My mother painted when i was young and encouraged drawing and painting and handcrafting in all forms and my father, the photographer, gave me my first camera at age 8. As a result, i have been a lifelong student of both mediums.
