Description
Fish Story is an oil painting of a fly fishermans dream spot, a glory hole full of trout in a mountain river. Or, perhaps, it is a fish story of the secret spot and the ones that got away.
Fly fishing is one popular type of sport fishing. The technique of fly fishing requires a rod, a reel and a special fishing line that is weighted. To cast the light lure or fly that results in an actual fish strike requires very different casting techniques than ordinary fishing. It takes a lot of practice to be able to mimic a natural fly near the water and lure the fish. There are different methods of casting for fresh water, salt water, lakes, streams, rivers and bays. The fisherman or woman usually makes their own flies, hand tied, to create an attractive lure for the fish to strike. Fishermen tell us that fishing of any kind can be a very relaxing, meditative experience.
The Fish Story backdrop is a freshwater mountain river. Rivers are part of natures water cycle. Clouds bring rain and snow to the mountains. Snow melt and surface runoff flow into small creeks and streams, which join together in larger waterways like rivers. Rivers flow to the oceans. Ocean water evaporates back to the clouds and the cycle begins anew.

Creating portals of light, love, joy, beauty, compassion, hope and gratitude is my lifelong passion and gift for the earth, hence the name of my art business, For the Earth. My mother painted in oils when I was young and encouraged my own drawing, painting and handcrafting in all forms. My father, the photographer, gave me my first camera at age 8. As a result of these loving influences, I am a lifelong student of both mediums. I am grateful to my wonderful Pacific NW painter teachers, Stan Capon and Edi Olson, for training my eye and technique. I hope you will enjoy this image as much as I enjoyed its creation.
