Clematis in the Rain features raspberry shades of color amid the raindrops of these wondrous blossoms nestled in their leafy nest.
Part of the buttercup family, the genus clematis has over 300 species. These beautiful flowering vines originated primarily in the Far East, primarily China and Japan. Other names they are known by include, traveler’s joy (a British name for the only English native), virgin’s bower, old man’s beard and leather flower or leather vase. The name Clematis itself comes from the Greek, meaning climbing plant.
The larger-flowered varieties frequently grace archways, pergolas, and trellises in garden designs. Large 12 – 15 centimeter flowers facing upward are favorites and more recently gorgeous double blooms. Clematis is one of the most popular garden vines because of their prolific masses of splendid flowers and the plant’s easy adaptability. Vines often produce several bursts of flowers in one season.

Creating portals of light, love, joy, beauty, compassion, hope and gratitude is my lifelong passion and purpose. My mother painted when i was young and encouraged drawing and painting and handcrafting in all forms and my father, the photographer, gave me my first camera at age 8. As a result, i have been a lifelong student of both mediums. Formal training of my eye and technique has been with the wonderful Pacific NW painter teachers, Stan Capon and Edi Olson. i hope you will enjoy these images as much as i enjoyed their creation.
