Description
Autumn Reflections is an original oil painting. This scene was inspired by a visit to Maine during the leaf-peeping season. The intensity of the vivid colors is true to the experience there.
Autumn in the northern hemisphere marks the time between summer and winter. This season is characterized by the noticeable waning of sunlight at both ends of the day, cooling temperatures and leaves coloring and then falling from deciduous trees. The autumn months are September, October and November in the north; March, April and May in the south. In North America, the autumn or fall season is considered to start with the September Equinox and end with the Winter Solstice. The term fall, from the 16th century, refers to the fall of the leaves. Prior to that, the season was simply called harvest, for the main activity this time of year. This theme continues, even though many people no longer live in rural settings, with harvest festivals, like Thanksgiving.

Creating portals of light, love, joy, beauty, compassion, hope and gratitude is my lifelong passion and gift for the earth, hence the name of my art business, For the Earth. My mother painted in oils when I was young and encouraged my own drawing, painting and handcrafting in all forms. My father, the photographer, gave me my first camera at age 8. As a result of these loving influences, I am a lifelong student of both mediums. I am grateful to my wonderful Pacific NW painter teachers, Stan Capon and Edi Olson, for training my eye and technique. I hope you will enjoy this image as much as I enjoyed its creation.
