Description
Boys and Frogs is a painting that pays tribute to the attraction of small boys to frogs and other critters in Mother Natures playground and to the parents that encourage this relationship and exploration.
Frogs may have originated as early as 265 million years ago, not too surprising given that they are one of the five most diverse orders of vertebrates and are found from the tropics to the subarctic areas of the planet. These short-bodied amphibians number around 4,800 different species. They may live in fresh water, on dry land, underground and in trees.
Frog development starts with eggs, usually laid in water. Eggs hatch into tadpoles that have both internal gills and tails. The metamorphosis into adulthood completes with the absorption of the tail, strong, legs for jumping, a split tongue and the development of a glandular, camouflaged skin or one that is bright red or yellow to signal that it can be toxic. Frog diet is generally made up of small invertebrates, although a few are omnivorous and even fewer have a fruit-based diet.
Frogs are considered a key component in the worldwide web of life and a key source of attraction to small boys.
Early childhood is the developmental stage sometimes known as the play age. This stage usually includes the time frame between the ages of two years until around 7 years. This stage is characterized by rapid growth in all areas of development, including physical, language, hand eye coordination and cognition. The brain itself increases 20 % in weight. Large muscles develop first, followed by the fine motor skills of small muscle development and coordination. Play activities that involve picking up objects, drawing, running, hopping, skipping, climbing, throwing, and catching help to develop these muscles.

Creating portals of light, love, joy, beauty, compassion, hope and gratitude is my lifelong passion and gift for the earth, hence the name of my art business, For the Earth. My mother painted in oils when I was young and encouraged my own drawing, painting and handcrafting in all forms. My father, the photographer, gave me my first camera at age 8. As a result of these loving influences, I am a lifelong student of both mediums. I am grateful to my wonderful Pacific NW painter teachers, Stan Capon and Edi Olson, for training my eye and technique. I hope you will enjoy this image as much as I enjoyed its creation.
